How does "SHE" do that??
How does one 220 lbs, 6'2" guy create this illusion???
FROM M TO F

1) I start out with a clean shaven face and body; depending on which parts are exposed when wearing certain costumes.
2) A little Pharmagel eyecream & moisturizer and some "Oil-Blocker" will give you a base to start with. I usually buy the Origins Oil Control Lotion. I use very little of these products, I want a good base to start with but I do need the makeup to stick to my skin.
3) I start my foundation with 'DERMABlend' to hide the beard line and other hair shadows, patting it on and blending carefully.
4) I then go over the areas I want to contour with lighter and darker DERMABlend to create my cheekbones and a slimmer nose. To fully understand this I will explain further. I take darker "DB" and put it under my cheekbones, along the line of my chin and down the sides of my nose to add depth, then I use lighter "DB" on the bridge of my nose and along the area of my cheeks to make them stand out. I blend the colors together just so there are no HARSH lines but still keeping the different colors in place.
5) After blending I take the "DB" setting powder and fully cover my face, setting time is around 5 minutes, brush off the excess. This product is now water-proof and sweat-proof so it will not run or streak when performing those DANCE numbers.
6) To add a more natural look to my base I then take the Bare Escentuals MEDIUM BEIGE and sweep that over the entire face and chest area. I use it to cover and blend the contouring that I did with the previous products.
7) Now I will start on my eyes..... This is still a hard part for me because I never seem to get them EXACTLY even, it does take alot of practice.......I start with a bone-colored eyeshadow from MAC on my lid to my brow bone, then I usually take a darker colored brown or black and contour the crease of my eyelid and finally I take some pearl-colored shadow and highlight the browbone area. After I get the colors all in place I take a shadow brush and blend them together for a more "smoky" effect. I like using MAC eyeshadows because I have found that they have the best staying power and do not fade into the skin.
8) I then take my M.A.C #5 Eyelashes and cut off the last 9 to 12 hairs to make them shorter, this gives a more natural lash line and you dont have that BIG strip of hairs dangling from your lids. I use some "DUO Surgical Adhesive" to attach them close to my natural lash line in the center of my eye, this allows the longer ends to flip up and give a more LUSH look. If you have to much of the strip glued to your eye they seem to curve downward and then you have this shadow casting onto your cheek area. You want your false lashes to "flick" up! This tends to OPEN up the eye and give a dramatic look.
9) I then take some MAC black liner and put pin-dots of it into my lower lash line, taking a rubber tipped blending wand I smudge the liner into the shape that I want. Thin or thick... depends on the look I am going for that evening.
10) I use a little mascara ( you know the brand --- the color of the tube is PINK & GREEN) on the lower lashes to add some color and on the top lash line I use the mascara to blend my real lashes with the fake ones.
11) I have my eyebrows waxed so I do not have to use any wax/spirit gum to cover them up. I just use a very light brown shadow or BLONDE eyebrow pencil to give more color and depth. If I used a pencil on them I would take short feathery strokes because I am not going for that JOAN CRAWFORD look. After applying the brow color I take my finger and blend the color.
12) Next is the part that I love......THE LIPS...... I take a matching tone liner and over-draw the top lip line and just follow my lower lip line..... I tend to go for that "SHOWGIRLS" look on my lips. I then fill in the lip area with the lipstick that I am wearing for that night. "PERVETTE" lipstick from M.A.C is my favorite... along with "RIPE SIENNA PLUM" from Ultima II and "GASH" from Urban Decay.
13) The last step in my look is to apply my cheek color in a sweeping motion from my sideburn to the corner of my mouth. This elongates my face and gives a slimmer look. I usually add a bit of blush to my chin, tip of nose and along the chin line to sharpen the edge between the face and the neck.
I do have to keep a few secrets so I am going to STOP here!!!

Some more advice.........
I would like to express that if you want to become a drag queen..... It is going to take more than a trip to K-Mart with 20 bucks............most people (even if they only want to do it once)...... still want to look good.
It takes a long time to PERFECT your look!
**You must always start with good foundation garments to acheive the body shape you are going for.
**Next you must have a decent looking wig that properly suits your face and attitude. You will not find this at the local "GoodWill".
I have seen so many "girls" out there with BAD hair and BAD make-up that it takes away from the whole "ART" of DRAG, and I almost feel that it degrades the rest of us Diva's.
This is a good reference of what to get and the price you will expect to pay for all this Glamour!!!
The following is what you need to attain:
1) First decide what look you are trying create. Please remember that if you want a more SHOWGIRL look, you will not find what you need at the local K-mart. The only thing I buy at K-Mart is my PANTY HOSE and MASCARA.
2) Practice walking in HIGH HEELS before doing anything. I see many girls out there that look like they are "plowing a field" rather than gracfully walking. You cant look like a cow wearing stilts to get your point across. And I hate when GIRLS wear flats....... they just do not have the 'spunk' that a true Diva needs! Please stay away from WHITE PUMPS...... As a man, you already have bigger feet and a bit thicker leg, wearing WHITE is going to make you look like you have Minnie Mouse shoes on.......... horrid look to go for!!!!! LOL
3) A fierce attitude..... now I dont mean a cut-throat attitude, just a snappy one because you will be put under the microscope and have to protect your self from the comments of others, especially the other gals that may be out in the club with you! They can be cruel so you need a THICKER skin to protect yourself from all the EVILS out there.
4) Now you can go on to picking out your HAIR..... choose a color that compliments the look you are trying to get and remember that you have to also choose the style that also fits best with your masculine features....SO THEY BLEND TOGETHER...... What I mean is dont pick a little round bubble 'do if your face is round.
Now I know this is the difficult part....THE COSMETICS......What do you get? What looks right? How much is this going to cost?...... I know it is going to be rough but that is where standing in front of the mirror with all this on your counter comes in handy..... it takes many hours of practice to get it all right!!!!!
You will need the following cosmetics:
-
Concealer...to hide the flaws, beard shadow etc. ( DermaBlend is a great tool)
-
Base foundation (Prefer a powderized brand if using dermablend)
-
Darker & Lighter foundation/powders to contour and shape the face
-
Loose Powder to set everything (Ben Nye works very well)
-
Eyebrow pencil.....remember not to draw on dark lines!
-
Eye shadow....at least 2 to 3 colors to contour the eye and give it shape and definition.
-
Blush to contour the cheek area
-
Eye liner (a softer KOHL works best, can also use a liquid)
-
Mascara
-
False Eyelashes and Adhesive ( Some use DUO and some use liquid latex)
-
Lipliner
-
Lipstick
-
Perfume.......choose something that is SOFT but has ATTITUDE!
Please remember that this is ONLY basic and you may want to add to the list in the future for your own needs, or you may feel that you do not need some of these items......it is your look so go for it!!
Now onto the rest of your needs to perfect your GIRLY presence.......
RAZORS......its a BITCH getting rid of that hair!
Panties/gaff to use for hiding that bulge
Chinchers and/or corset for a more fem. figure
Bra... if no corset is used
Breast forms
Pantyhose...........3 pair should hide a minor amount of hair if you choose not to shave. Avoid SUNTAN & CREAM colors....they just do not look pretty on OUR legs!!!
WIG
OUTFIT.....do not forget about the CONDIMENTS that go with your outfit.(boas, gloves etc...)
Shoes
Handbag
Jewelry
Now lets get to the prices of these items:
WIGS.....expect to pay between $65.00 and $300.00, depending on the quality you want.
Pantyhose....I love "NO Nonsense" Sheer to Waist.......(nude works best for me)...around $9.00 for a 4 pack.....AND I WEAR ALL 4 PAIRS AT ONCE!!!! It hides the hair and gives the male leg a smooth look. If you have alot then I would suggest buying a pair of skin colored TIGHTS and then wear a few pairs of NUDE hose over to tone down the color and give a better appearance.
Cosmetics.......plan on this amount being at least $150.00 but can be often alot more.(Even at the local K-mart you can pay up to $25.00 just for some cheapy foundation and as much as $100.00 at a dept. store counter. Also be aware that you can skip the $20.00 lipstick and go for a cheaper brand in the same color, you just have to know how and where to shop.)
Shoes.....if just wearing for one time you could get away with going to PAYLESS but remember that they tend to look CHEAP. A good clue to buying womens shoes is to add 2 sizes to your MENS size... If you are a mens 10, try WOMENS 12's.
Clothing..... depends on where you want to shop. Choose something that you feel comfortable in and that it goes with the look you want to go for. Please stay away from those "Mother-of-the-Bride" dresses. They look matronly and dont give ANYONE a shape.
Stay away from Suntan hose and white pumps. If I catch you wearing them I will slice your throat and watch you bleed-lol.
And please do not buy any of those school-girl outfits.
These 3 looks are not the ideal that you think you should strive for........
I wish I could place pictures here but that would be RUDE. You can always email if you want my 3 No-No Pics. LOL
*On a personal note I have to say that I have added up the average prices that I have spent on cosmetics and the brands range from WET N WILD, CoverGIRL, Maybelline, MATRIX, AVEDA, M.A.C, LANCOME, ESTEE LAUDER and others..... and from what I have on hand I could say that I can open up a make-up counter myself...... I have invested way over $5000.00 and some products I never use...... I bought it just because I liked the color so DON'T go overboard.
I think I will stop here at the cost of this "junk" because I know you are getting the idea!
It is hard being a GIRL and a GUY....wheeew! And costly too!
P.S...In order to be a TRUE drag-queen, YOU must be able to do your OWN make-up and hair.....if you can't...Practice--Practice--Practice.
